Nurturing Your Superpowers

Do you ever look to others for proof that you are OK?  Do you ever rely on the approval of others as evidence that you are with the program?  Do you ever feel that you need others to reassure you that you are making your mark?

There have been many times in my life when I would have answered YES to all three of those questions.  During these times, I have looked far and wide, hoping that others would convince me of my internal value.

I’ve noticed that in these moments I have tried to convince the world to admire and love me, so that I could convince myself that I was worthy of admiring and loving me.

This outward search for affirmation is a mighty tempting course of action when we feel unsure of ourselves.

But this approach is like Clark Kent doubting that he could indeed be Superman.    Then based on this doubt, donning a cape to fly off to save people.  And finally, only after he had gotten acclaim from others for being a hero, going into a phone booth and patting himself on the back for being an all-right guy.

Having a strong, healthy self-confidence is indeed a SUPERPOWER.  Radiant self-confidence is a SUPERPOWER we each have a capacity to nurture everyday.  Self-confidence is so AMAZING because it is our opportunity to really appreciate our talents, our lives, and ourselves.

Isn’t it FUN that we have the ability to recognize ourselves as SUPER?

Say a Heroic “Yes!” to the Superhero Within You

Clark Kent stepped into a phone booth.  Popeye chugged a can of spinach.  Luke Skywalker journeyed inside himself and found the Force.

These three heroes would go on to save the day, but first they connected with their own heroism in quiet, personal moments.

A phone booth is a very cozy space to transform form into a hero.  There was no one in that phone booth but Clark Kent himself.  (He didn’t even phone a friend.)  Clark had to first become a hero in his own mind in order to become Superman.   He had to say a Heroic Yes! to the capacity within himself to be great.

What place do you use as your “phone booth?”  How are you becoming a hero in your own mind?  How are you saying a Heroic Yes! to your capacity to be great?

Popeye had to believe in the hero within himself enough to seek nourishment for that hero.  Who would have Popeye been if he had said, “A guy like me ain’t worth no can of spinach?”

Sometimes we know of physical things or educational opportunities that will help us grow into our heroic selves.  We have the chance to say a Heroic Yes! to investing our money into the development of our heroism.

What physical things or educational opportunities do you want to say a Heroic Yes! to investing your money in that would aid you in growing more fully into your heroic self?

Luke had to look deep within himself to connect to the vastness that is the Force.  When Luke looked within himself, he found that he wasn’t all alone, and made the choice to say a Heroic Yes! to his connection with this vastness.

When do you feel most connected to the vastness that is beyond you?  How are you saying a Heroic Yes! to this connection?

Superman, Popeye and Luke Skywalker all first said a very intimate and Heroic Yes! to themselves before they went on to become heroes and save the world.

The Heroic Yes! that you give to yourself is perhaps both your greatest gift to yourself and your greatest gift to the world.

May you find great joy in saying a Heroic Yes! to the superhero within you.
